Life Coaching in a Career Context
CareerAnswered is primarily a career advice platform — but career challenges are rarely purely professional. Confidence issues, self-limiting beliefs, difficulty making decisions, work-life balance problems, and a lack of clarity about personal values are all factors that directly affect professional performance and satisfaction.
Life coaching addresses the person behind the career. It is not therapy — it is forward-focused support that helps you identify what you want, understand what is getting in your way, and build the habits and mindset to move toward it.
When Life Coaching Is Relevant to Your Career
- You feel stuck professionally but cannot identify why
- Interview anxiety or confidence issues are affecting your performance
- You are struggling with imposter syndrome in a new role or industry
- You know what you want to achieve but consistently self-sabotage or procrastinate
- Work-life boundaries are affecting your health, relationships, or mental wellbeing
- You have experienced significant personal changes — divorce, illness, bereavement — that have affected your professional identity and direction
Life Coaching vs. Career Counselling vs. Therapy
Life Coaching
Forward-focused. Works on goals, habits, mindset, and accountability. Does not address trauma or mental health diagnoses. Suitable for people who are generally functioning well but want to grow, change, or move forward more effectively.
Career Counselling
Focused specifically on professional direction. Typically includes skills assessments, career exploration exercises, and decision support. More structured and assessment-driven than life coaching.
Therapy / Counselling
Addresses mental health, trauma, and psychological wellbeing. If you are experiencing depression, anxiety disorders, grief, or significant emotional distress, please seek qualified therapeutic support rather than coaching.
